120 Horsepower Rotax ACE Turbocharged Engine:
The 2022 Maverick X3 Max DS Turbo features the same basic 900cc three-cylinder Rotax engine as the high-powered X3s, but without an intercooler, resulting in a rating of 120 horsepower . For general off-road driving, the performance is fabulous in the Max version . The engine pulls cleanly but smoothly from low in the rpm range, and as the revs climb, the fun happens quickly .

Who Is This Engine For? For riders who frequent fast desert or dedicated dune areas, the 200-horsepower RR models might be worth the upgrade, but for most folks and riding areas, the 120-horsepower engine is more than fine .
Quick Response System X (QRS-X) CVT:
The CVT delivers clean and quick upshifting, helping the DS Turbo respond energetically to throttle inputs . The DS Turbo is geared plenty low in low range to find terrain that will test the 4WD capability .
Smart-Lok Differential Technology:
All 2022 X3s are now fitted with the Smart-Lok front differential, a sophisticated system originally found only on RC models . It allows switching between 2WD and 4WD, plus front differential lock, with two additional computerized modes:
- 2WD: Efficient operation
- 4WD with Front Diff Lock: Traditional locking front differential for maximum traction
- 4WD TRAIL ACTIV: Progressive lock for improved traction and handling
- 4WD TRAIL: Enhanced traction for trail riding
Smart-Lok has greatly improved Can-Am’s 4WD and crawling capability.
