SPEED & PERFORMANCE PROFILE
70+ MPH Top Speed:
The 2021 Talon 1000R FOX Live Valve delivers exhilarating high-speed performance with an estimated top speed exceeding 70+ mph in high range. In low range, the six-speed DCT allows the vehicle to reach approximately 50 mph, providing exceptional control for technical terrain . The engine is the most highly tuned version of Honda’s 999cc parallel-twin platform, delivering the most power of any Talon model .
999cc Unicam® Parallel-Twin Engine:
At the heart of the Talon 1000R is Honda’s powerful 999cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine . Engine highlights include:
- Unicam® valve train with four valves per cylinder for efficient high-rpm breathing
- 46 mm throttle bodies with fuel injection for crisp throttle response in all conditions
- Longitudinally mounted design eliminates power-robbing right angles in the driveline
- 10.0:1 compression ratio for strong power delivery across the RPM range
- Over-square 92mm bore and 75.1mm stroke design for high-rpm performance
Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT):
The Talon features Honda’s innovative six-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission, which provides the durability and efficiency of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic . Key features include:
- Two automatic clutches – one for odd gears (1/3/5), one for even gears (2/4/6) for seamless shifts
- High/low sub-transmission for versatile power delivery
- Three shift modes (Standard, Sport, Manual) with paddle shifters for total control
- Launch Mode – exclusive to FOX Live Valve-equipped Talons for incredible off-the-line acceleration
- True engine braking – the DCT provides excellent downhill control without the belt issues common to CVTs
- Clutch temperature indicator on dash for monitoring DCT status in extreme conditions
I-4WD & Electronic Brakeforce Distribution:
Honda’s exclusive i-4WD is the powersports industry’s first and only off-road brake traction control system . It manages the amount of slip between left and right front wheels, applying torque to the one with greater grip. The result is excellent traction and tracking performance in tough off-road conditions, with reduced steering effort compared to a standard differential lock .
The system incorporates Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) that strategically applies braking force to optimize stability under braking, minimizing rear-chassis lift when in two-wheel drive . This works in concert with i-4WD to keep the vehicle stable and controlled in all conditions.
Hill Start Assist (HSA):
A dash-mounted button temporarily holds the vehicle in place on ascents without requiring brake pedal pressure, allowing the driver to focus on throttle modulation for smooth restarts .

How FOX Live Valve Works:
In collaboration between Honda, Fox, and Bosch, the FOX Live Valve system represents cutting-edge suspension technology :
- Dedicated ECU compiles input from an IMU (inertial measurement unit) and sensors on the steering and brakes
- 200 times per second sample rate monitors vehicle conditions
- System adjusts the four shocks 16 times per second
- Adjustments occur in as little as 20 milliseconds
- At any one time, all four shocks could have a different compression setting based on what the vehicle is doing
- Reduces bottoming, pitch, and roll automatically
- Active at all speeds – unlike competitor systems that only activate above 20 mph
4+ Link Rear Suspension Design:
The unique 4+ Link trailing arm system limits toe change to only 0.3 degrees through the entire 20.1 inches of travel, for excellent alignment control and predictable handling at speed .
Ride Quality:
The Talon 1000R corners with exceptional precision. Professional reviewers note it “corners like crazy” and feels “less likely to lift the inside wheels in turns” than any current UTV, especially in rutted turns . The combination of the wide 68.4-inch stance and long-travel suspension provides high-speed tracking and large-bump absorption capabilities .
